AFA Section Column in Anthropology News

The Association for Feminist Anthropology’s Column in Anthropology News regularly showcases contributions from the AFA membership in the form of essays, interviews, or photo essays from all subfields of anthropology written in an accessible, journalistic style that draw on the author’s scholarly sensibility and expertise as a feminist anthropologist. Pieces may focus on, but certainly be not limited to, interesting research, fieldwork experiences, current events, career advice, or hot topics in the profession. Essays and interviews should have a maximum length of 1,600 words and be accompanied by 1-3 images. Photo essays should have a maximum length of 750 words for the introductory text and be accompanied by 6-8 images.

We publish four columns per calendar year, one per quarter. We will accept pieces from current AFA members on a first come, first serve basis by the following deadlines:

A pitch of no more than 300 words is due at least 1 month prior to the submission deadline for the quarter in which the prospective author intends to publish with AFA in AN. Pitches and drafts of articles should be sent to AFA Section Column Contributing Editors, Maja Jeranko or Anika Jugović Spajić at mjeranko@uw.edu or at ANJ60@pitt.edu. For more information about publishing with AFA in AN, please refer to the AN Guidelines for Section Authors.
