The Institute for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Georgia State University invites
applications for the position of Director of the Institute, pending budgetary approval. The new Director
will take creative leadership in steering the future direction of the Institute, including but not limited to,
strengthening interdisciplinary connections on and off campus and continuing the ongoing growth of the
Institute. We welcome all areas of expertise and seek disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholars whose
research augments one or more of the Institute’s main areas of focus: race, globalization, sexuality, and
social change. Applicants at the rank of Professor are preferred, but applicants at the rank of Associate
Professor with strong administrative leadership experience and scholarly profiles are also welcome.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Anticipated start date is July 2019.

We seek candidates with an ability to develop curricular and extra-curricular academic experiences that
serve our diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, enhance excellent interdisciplinary research
and teaching, and foster an open and inclusive environment. The successful candidate will be expected to
take creative leadership in strengthening interdisciplinary connections on campus and developing
collaborative relationships with local community-based organizations and non-profits. WGSS offers an
M.A., a graduate certificate, a B.A., and an undergraduate minor. WGSS’s curriculum is designed to
support undergraduate and graduate students whose aspirations include employment in the nonprofit/NGO
sector, the arts, journalism, public health, and the pursuit of advanced degrees in doctoral
programs. Experience in administration, faculty mentoring and evaluation, and departmental advocacy is
strongly desired.
